Written by Cari Minor
Written at the start of our world-wide pandemic when my brother and I drove from Boulder, Colorado to Madison, Wisconsin to get our mother out of her Independent Living situation. We drove 2,000 miles in four days and I kept a journal the whole way. It had been years since I had driven this route and the beauty of the Mid-West Plains and the stark reality of the situation we were in (that we still had no idea would last so long and be so isolating) were the fodder for this song written for my mother. Mighty Marion, 93 years and still amazing.
lyrics
We drove across the Mid-West Plains.
Through fallow fields of corn.
Past the barns hanging by a thread.
Dusty tractors old and worn.
Sandhill cranes crossed the sky.
Under low ceiling clouds.
My brother at the wheel.
And we’re calling your name out loud.
CHORUS
Coming for you.
Coming for you.
Tumbleweeds and blackbirds.
And rolls and rolls of hay.
Icy roads and Harvesters.
Along the Interstate.
I tried to write down all the rivers.
For a thousand miles and back.
Big Blue and the Mississippi
But I just couldn’t keep track.
CHORUS
BRIDGE
The sky is dark and gray.
We’re in a time like no other.
Many miles to go.
As we race to reach our mother.
Headed West to Colorado.
In the early morning sun.
The whole world is different now
Our journey’s just begun.
CHORUS
Coming for you
Coming for you
Coming for you
For you, you.
Yeah, Yeah.....

The song Shelli speaks to my heart, the story just tears me down and the voice builds me back up. A beautiful album which encapsulates SIAD!!! coachshipley
