Back Road
03:45
|
|||
I don't know everything
Just what I need to keep on tryin
Up in the morning to sing
And do my best to kiss the sky
Now when it comes to me and you
I don't know how I would get by
Without all the sweet things you do
And the way you hod me through the night
CH
She said baby take a walk on a back road with me
and hold my hand
Lets talk about things goin on in the world that we just don't understand
Be my cure, be my cure
There aint nothin else in the world that I need more
I know I've made some mistakes
And I've done some things right too
Without some lucky breaks
No woman or man can make it through
As long as the sun keeps on rising
And the wind blows from the west
I'm just gonna keep on tryin
And with you I'll be my best
CH

Star Crossed Lovers
04:34
|
|||
Well they walked into the dead of night
And put the fireflies and moon to bed
He held her in his arms his shoulder cradled her head
And when she looked into his eyes
She saw the light of a Mexico sky
CH
The plains of Nebraska 1913
Star Crossed Lovers
They were never meant to be
In the early morning hours beyond the
Wheat fields and Cherry trees
Her husband came along and
Rage brought his his knees
For her lover death came quick
With a bullet through his heart
And the next two aimed at her
Didn't miss their mark
And she crawled with sobs and heaving chest
Laid her head on her lovers breast
CH
When the last of the wild roses
Open their hearts to die
You can see two white doves
High in the Omaha night
Flying free Oh so high
Headed South to a Mexico sky
The plains of Nebraska, 1913
Star Crossed Lovers
They were never meant to be
Oh the plains of Nebraska, 1913
Star Crossed Lovers
They were never meant to be
Never meant to be

Half The Man
03:47
|
|||
I remember going through your drawers
Trying to find the truth about who you were
I found the pills that helped your Ills
I found your medals from the war
and I realized I'm half the man you were
CH
3>They don't make em like that
anymore
Trying to walk in your shoes when I was ten
illusions of a world that would end
you through your gun into the water
to protect your sons and daughter
I am only half the man you were
CH
BR
Everybody's got some bad things
my old man had just a few
my brother got the anger
and me the baby blues
Now the time has gone around the bend
I get to look behind at who you were then
you overcame an awful mother
whispers of a mystery borther
I still don't know exactly who you were

Cold Day
04:19
|
|||
It was a Cold Day, back in '32
They came and took our farm
Nothing we could do.
Now he's a poor man
Working door to door
A cold water flat is all
We can afford
Used to be nothing but fields
Nothing but fields
Used to be nothing but sun
Nothing but sun
Nothing but sun
Yeah, we got three kids
Living on the bad side of town
We're gonna keep our heads above water
We ain't gonna drown
We're gonna make it through
This wretched time
By saving every penny
Nickel and dime
Used to be nothing but fields
Nothing but fields
Used to have nothing but dreams
Nothing but dreams
Nothing but dreams
BR
I used to watch my kids
Chasing off the corn crows
Climbing the apple trees
Tending the honeybees
Living our dream
Now I'm looking back
Somehow we made it through
But we never forgot that day
In 1932.
Used to be nothing but fields
Nothing but fields
Used to be nothing but sun
Nothing but sun
Used to have nothing but dreams
Nothing but dreams, nothing but dreams
It was a cold day, back in '32
It was a cold, cold day, back in '32
Cold Day
Cold, Cold, Cold, Cold
Cold Day

Wonder
02:54
|
|||
I always want to wonder
I like bein under a little spell
I don't need to be knowin
where everthing,s goin
or where it's been
CH
And the lessons in our live's
are right before our eyes
the once majestic tree
decaying in the sun
and it tells us little things
about who we are
and what we might be made of
BR
Look at that old tree
lyin in the sun
dyin in the sun
Unlike you and me always on the run
always on the run

Love Will Meet You
04:04
|
|||
In a world that can be so big and lonely
How beautiful to find your one and only
It's a glimmer of hope, it's a river of light
When you love someone
With all your might
To my firstborn son and newfound daughter
I wish you a life that takes you farther and farther
Through the mountains and pines
And the city streets
Through the laugher you'll share
And the tears you'll weep.
Love will meet you where you are
Working and driving in your car
Right through the good times and the hard
Love will meet you where you are
And this circle of friends
And those from above
Are surrounding you
With all of our love
Love will meet you where you are
Working and driving in your car
Right through the good times and the hard
Love will meet you where you are
Love will meet you where you are
Standing in the middle of this farm
Dancing underneath a million stars
Love will meet you where you are
Love will meet you where you are

You Wont Leave My Heart
03:28
|
|||
I hid my radio underneath my pillow
to listen to you
And when I figured out what you were doing
I tried to do it too
The music helped me define my truth
I lost my stutter when I sang like you
CH
You've left this world but you won't leave my heart
You've left this world but you won't leave my heart
There's a song for everything I've done and everyplace I've been
When I sing those songs again it's a journey through the sorrow and fun
To me the music never could get old
like brick and mortar to my soul
CH
BR
So many good times
So many hard times too
All of the changes
always there with you
always there with you
CH

Willy
04:30
|
|||
Willy left town on August 23
To join the local infantry
Marched out of town to the fife and drum
Carried my heart into the morning sun
Men in town won't leave me alone
They keep coming by my home
Gotta make a plan, gotta leave this place
Gonna find Willy and his sweet face
I cut my hair and bound my chest
Put on the union blue and tossed my dress
Sometimes a girls gotta do what a man can do
Sometimes a girls gotta do what a man can do
Two weeks out I found my boy
We held back our tears of joy
Walked into the woods to be alone,
“Jessie oh Jessie, please go back home”
I have come to fight with you
Please don’t tell me what to do
I will stay here by your side
Dressed as a man but still your bride
I cut my hair and bound my chest
Put on the union blue and tossed my dress
Sometimes a girls gotta do what a man can do
Sometimes a girls gotta do what a man can do
Marched into the corn 10 feet high
Gray coats took us by surprise.
I lost sight of Willy that night,
Didn't find him til’ the morning light
Willy oh Willy please don't go away
We've got a baby on the way
His last breath hit the morning chill
There and then I lost my Will
I cut my hair and bound my chest,
Put on the union blue and tossed my dress
This world can be so cold and cruel
Sometimes a girls gotta do what a man can do
I cut my hair and bound my chest,
Put on the union blue and tossed my dress
This world can be so cold and cruel
Sometimes a girls gotta do what a man can do
Sometimes a girls gotta do what a man can do
Sometimes a girls gotta do what a man can do

Ghosts Of Duffy's Cut
04:33
|
|||
Buried In A Heap
For two hundred years
Reduced to dust and bone
John Ruddy was his name
With fifty-six men
Who hailed from County Donegal
Their ship set sail from Derry in 1832
With hope in their hearts for a brand new start
In the land of opportune
Sixteen hour days, little food or pay
Duffy worked them on the rails
Panic struck when the Cholera came
Made them wish they'd never set sail
And the locals they were wary
The boys tried to run away
They came out of the darkness
And struck them down that day
And on the eve of Winter
You can see them dance and strut
All blue and green like fire
The Ghosts Of Duffy's Cut
And on the eve of Winter
You can see them dance and strut
All blue and green like fire
The Ghosts Of Duffy's Cut
Centuries passed, the bones were found
And they sent John Ruddy Home
Back to Ardara, in County Donegal
Under a Celtic cross of stone
And the other men remain
Without a chance to point the blame
Their peace only disturbed
By the sound of passing trains.
And on the eve of Winter
You can see them dance and strut
All blue and green like fire
The Ghosts Of Duffy's Cut
And on the eve of Winter
You can see them dance and strut
All blue and green like fire
The Ghosts Of Duffy's Cut
The Ghosts Of Duffy's Cut
Oh The Ghosts Of Duffy's Cut.

You Use Me
03:01
|
|||
You use me like a candle
You use me like a doll
You us me like a hammer
To break down all your walls
You use me like you mean it
You use me like a flame
You use me and I like it
I'm the one to blame
CH
Cause I love the way you start the fire
I love the way you make me reach higher
You use me like a gigolo
You use me like a glove
You use me like you should use
The one you love
You use me like a good friend
I use you the same way
If you use me till the bitter end
It'll be okay

Skeleton Tree
03:40
|
|||
Ezra Barker got down on one knee
Underneath the skeleton tree
Said Hannah Connell of Skiberren
Do me the honor and marry me
For my wife has died and my child is seven
Since I met you, feels like heaven
We were married in the dwindling fall
Town folk came, one and all
Ooooooo
Ooooooo
Six years later I laid Ezra to rest
Town of Boulder put me to the test
Said they were aiming to build a Dam
Flood our home in Nederland
CH
You gotta give a damn to fight a dam
You gotta give your heart to love a man
You gotta give your heart to fight a dam
You gotta give your heart to love a man
BR
And I fought and I fought and then I fought harder
They just flooded our land with run off water
Now I stand on top of their land
Looking down at Barker Dam
Think about Hannah from Skibereen
Underneath the skeleton tree
CH
You gotta give a damn to fight a dam
You gotta give your heart to love a man
You gotta give a damn to fight a dam
You gotta lose your heart to love a man

Still Alive
03:37
|
|||
Well I can't believe that I lived this long
After all the things I did when I was young
And I would've broken a lot more hearts
But I didn't have moves and I couldn't make a spark
So I sat in my room and I played guitar
And I thought about being a Rock n Roll star
And I got close but close a'int good enough
When you know that you're trying to hit the mark
CH
But I'm still alive, I'm still alive, I'm still alive
Still alive to make the spark
Gonna try to hit the mark right now
It's a very good thing my life is long
So I can get past the things that I did wrong
If a broken clock is right two times a day
There may be hope for me after all
My life became a dream when I fell in love
With this singing queen that played guitar
Now we play our songs and we sing along
To the beat of the world that's flowin through our hearts
